Kindergarten math · Unit 9: Measuring

Taller does not always hold more

What this lesson shows

Fixes a mistake

A tall thin glass and a short wide bowl. Pour the full glass into the bowl, and the bowl is not even full: the bowl holds more.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: cups, 6 and 1: which is holds more. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Taller is not always more
  2. Fill one up
  3. Pour it into the other
  4. Not full? That one holds more

Helping at home

Read each box aloud. Then pour water at the sink or in the bath: fill a tall glass and pour it into a wide bowl. Does it fill the bowl?

If your kid gets stuck

Fill one and pour it into the other to check.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
