Kindergarten math · Unit 9: Measuring

Higher is not taller

What this lesson shows

Fixes a mistake

A pencil drawn higher up looks taller. Line up the bottoms, and it is the shorter one.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: towers, 6 and 4: which is taller. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Higher up is not taller
  2. Put them on the same floor
  3. Line up the bottoms
  4. Then compare the tops

Helping at home

Read each box aloud. Then try it: a short toy on a stool next to a tall toy on the floor. Which is taller? Put both on the floor to check.

If your kid gets stuck

Line up the bottoms first.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
