Profit

What this lesson shows

A lemonade stand takes in $25 and spends $9 on supplies. Profit is what comes in minus what it costs: $25 − $9 = $16.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: lemonade takes in $25, costs $4, $2, $3. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Add up the costs
  2. Profit = money in − costs
  3. Check: profit + costs = money in

Helping at home

Read each stand aloud. Your kid adds up what the supplies cost, subtracts that from the money taken in, and adds back to check.

If your kid gets stuck

Add the costs, then subtract from the money in.
