4th grade math · Unit 6: Decimals and money

Fractions as decimals

What this lesson shows

7/10 is 0.7 and 7/100 is 0.07, read aloud the same way.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: 2 37/100. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Ones, then a point
  2. Tenths, then hundredths
  3. A 0 holds an empty place
  4. Read it by the last place

Helping at home

Draw a chart with ones, a point, tenths, and hundredths. Put each digit in its place, a 0 in any empty place before the last digit, and read the decimal back by its last place: it should sound like the fraction.

If your kid gets stuck

Which place does the last digit go in?

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
