What this lesson shows
A 10 × 10 grid with 35 squares shaded: 35 out of 100 is 35%, or 35/100. With 50 shaded, it is 50%, which is 1/2.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: 35/100. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Percent means out of 100
- Each square is 1%
- The same number over 100
- 50% = 1/2
Helping at home
Your kid draws a 10 × 10 grid, or uses graph paper, and shades the squares: whole columns of 10 first, then the rest. Each square is 1 percent. Ask them to write the percent and the same number over 100.
If your kid gets stuck
Each small square is 1 percent.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
