What this lesson shows
A bar graph of books read each month: the maximum is 12 in March, the minimum is 4 in July. Kids read less in summer, so next July will likely be low too.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: Books read, March to August: 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 6. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- The maximum is the greatest
- The minimum is the least
- Look for a pattern
- Predict, then ask if it fits
Helping at home
After the graph is drawn, ask which bar is tallest and which is shortest, then what the summer bars have in common. Ask your kid to say, then write, one thing the graph tells and one prediction.
If your kid gets stuck
Find the tallest and the shortest bar.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
