3rd grade math · Unit 6: Data

Possible outcomes

What this lesson shows

A spinner with red, blue, and green can land on 3 outcomes; a coin on 2. List every outcome of a simple event.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: a spinner of red, blue, red, green. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. An outcome is a place it can land
  2. List each color once
  3. Count the list

Helping at home

Go around the spinner part by part. Write a color the first time it shows, and skip it when it shows again. Your kid counts the list: that is how many outcomes there are.

If your kid gets stuck

Write each color once.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
