Kindergarten math · Unit 8: Shapes

Build a shape

What this lesson shows

Sticks and clay balls build a triangle and a square: count the sticks for sides and the balls for corners, then draw it.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: square (question 1). Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Sticks make the sides
  2. Balls make the corners
  3. Triangle: 3 sticks, 3 balls
  4. Square: 4 sticks, 4 balls

Helping at home

Read each box aloud. Your kid draws a straight line from ball to ball, then counts the sides or corners. Build it for real too: straws or toothpicks with clay or play dough.

If your kid gets stuck

A stick for each side. A ball for each corner.
