3rd grade math · Unit 1: Multiplication and division

True or false?

What this lesson shows

3 × 8 = 4 × 6 is true. 24 ÷ 4 = 12 ÷ 3 is false. Both sides same value.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: 3 × 8 = 4 × 6. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Equal means the same as
  2. Work out each side
  3. Same value: true

Helping at home

Read the equal sign as "is the same as". Work out the left side and write its value under it, then the right side. If the two values match, it is true; if not, false.

If your kid gets stuck

Work out each side under it.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
