What this lesson shows
Fixes a mistake
Sam has 4 more than Ana, and Sam has 12. Ana has 12 − 4, not 12 + 4.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: friend has 12 balls, 4 more than you. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Who has more?
- Draw both rows
- Take away for the smaller one
Helping at home
Ask who has more. If the other person has more, you have fewer: draw their row, then yours shorter, and take away.
If your kid gets stuck
Who has more? Then you have fewer.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
