What this lesson shows
A pile of 3 red blocks, 5 blue blocks, and a sock. The sock does not belong. Line each color up in its own row: blue has more, so a block picked from the pile is likely blue.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: 3 red blocks, 5 blue blocks, and a sock. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Find the one that does not belong
- Give each kind its own row
- One in each box, from the left
- The longer row has more, so it is likely
Helping at home
Plain blocks are red; blocks with a dot are blue. Read each box aloud. Your kid finds the one that is not a block and says why, then draws each color in its own row, one block in each space from the left. Ask which row is longer, and which color a blind pick will likely be. Line up real toys or socks the same way.
If your kid gets stuck
Find the one that is not a block. Then one row for each color.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
