Find the part that repeats

What this lesson shows

A row of shapes: circle, square, circle, square. Ring the part that repeats, the core, then draw two more cores to keep the pattern going.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: circle, square, circle, square, ... Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Say the shapes out loud
  2. Find the part that repeats
  3. That part is the core
  4. Draw the core again

Helping at home

Read each box aloud. Your kid says the shapes out loud, rings the part that repeats, and draws it twice more on the lines. Ask: "What comes after the last shape?"

If your kid gets stuck

Say the shapes out loud. Listen for the part that comes again.
