Tally marks in fives

What this lesson shows

Shirt colors as tallies: the fifth mark crosses the four, and bundles count by 5s.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: red 7, blue 4, green 3. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. One mark for each kid
  2. The fifth goes across
  3. Count by 5, then count on

Helping at home

Make one mark for each answer. After four marks standing, the fifth goes across them. Count each bundle as 5, then count on.

If your kid gets stuck

Four standing, the fifth across.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
