Kindergarten math · Unit 2: More, less, and counting on

Equal to

What this lesson shows

5 dogs and 5 bones. Every dog gets one bone and none are left: 5 is equal to 5.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: 5 cars and 5 balls. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Match one to one
  2. Any left over?
  3. None left: the same
  4. Say equal to

Helping at home

Read each box aloud. Your kid draws a line from each thing on top to one below. If none are left over, the groups are equal. Say it: "4 is equal to 4."

If your kid gets stuck

Match each one. None left over? Then they are equal.
