2nd grade math · Unit 6: Money

Borrowing, lending, and making

What this lesson shows

Borrowing $4 means paying $4 back; a lender decides if it is worth it. A producer makes lemonade: $2 of lemons and $1 of sugar cost $3 to make.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: borrow $4, make with $2 and $1. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Borrow: get it, pay it back
  2. Lend: give it, it comes back
  3. Add what each part costs

Helping at home

Read each problem aloud. Borrowed money is paid back in full. To find what something costs to make, your kid adds what each part costs.

If your kid gets stuck

Borrowed money goes back. Add the parts.
