Numbers sit on the marks. Number the spaces instead, and every number lands one mark too far.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: 5 on a line from 0 to 10. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- 0 is on the first mark
- Touch each mark
- One number for each mark
- Never in the spaces

Read each box aloud. Your kid touches each mark and says its number, then writes the missing one right under its mark, never in a space.
