1st grade math · Unit 2: Equations and three numbers

True or false?

What this lesson shows

4 + 3 = 6 + 1 is true: both sides make 7. 9 − 1 = 7 is false.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: 4 + 3 = 6 + 1. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Work out the left side
  2. Work out the right side
  3. The same: true
  4. Not the same: false

Helping at home

Work out the left side and write what it makes under it, then the right side. A side with one number is just that number. The same: true. Not the same: false.

If your kid gets stuck

Work out each side, then compare.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
