What this lesson shows
Money earned is income. A kid with $10 picks between a book she wants and shoes she needs: the money buys goods and services, but not everything.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: $10 earned, needs $7, wants $6. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Income is money earned
- Add both prices
- Too much? Pick the need
- Subtract what is left
Helping at home
Read each problem aloud. Your kid adds the two prices to see if the money covers both, picks the need first, and subtracts to find what is left.
If your kid gets stuck
Add both prices. Is it more than you earned?
