What this lesson shows
A line from 0 to 100 with 10, 50, and 100 marked. 48 sits just before 50: it is nearly 50. 52 is about 50 too, and 90 is nearly 100.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: 48, 52, 90. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- 10, 50, and 100 help you find your place
- Nearly: close, but a little less
- About: close, a little more or less
- More than, less than, equal to
Helping at home
Draw a line from 0 to 100 and mark 10, 50, and 100. For each number, ask which mark it is close to, and whether it is a little more or a little less. Nearly means a little less; about means close either way.
If your kid gets stuck
Is it close to 10, 50, or 100?
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
